Do
you want to stand
out from the crowd? Looking for a 'sure-fire' way to focus the
employer’s attention and land that interview?
The secret lies in being able to deliver the right
information, in the right format, using the right words,
to ensure that your letter gets to the top of the “call-for-interview” pile.
This straightforward e-book guide (complete with easy-to-adapt
templates) will show you how do just that and avoid
your letter getting overlooked!
There is a good reason why so many qualified candidates fail to win an interview when they mail out their cover letter. It’s usually because they make the
recruiter wade through too much irrelevant information, so that they have a hard job working out whether or not the applicant is good enough to invite to an interview. This is the recruiter’s worse nightmare!
You simply have to deliver the right information and do it in a PRO-ACTIVE way. If you do this, then your letter will definitely be ear-marked for an invitation to interview.
I recently coached two job candidates, Jim and Andrew. On the face of it, they both come from very similar backgrounds and have similar qualifications and work records and they both applied independently for the same Sales Management position.
Looking at their CVs’ and job applications, there wasn’t much to choose between them. They were both keen, ambitious and appeared to be equally qualified. However, only Andrew was called in for an interview and was eventually offered the position.
So, what on earth made the difference in this case?
Well, it isn’t always qualifications or experience that wins the interview. They were both qualified and both of them were experienced in their field and hungry for success.
The main difference lies in what Andrew put in his cover letter. He made the effort to work through my book and learn how to relate his skills and experience to the employer’s needs - and he did it in a confident, lively style.
Jim, on the other hand, refused all offers of assistance and was sure he could ‘knock-something-up’ to send out with his CV. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out where Jim went wrong.
I subsequently spoke to the recruiter and he showed me both letters. It was obvious why Jim didn’t get called for interview. To paraphrase the recruiter’s words,
“It looked for all the world as if he had spent 98% of his efforts on his CV and only 2% of his time putting together a ‘bog standard’ cover letter”.
This was in complete contrast to Andrew, who had taken on board everything in my book that demonstrated the principles of how to grab the employer’s attention and compel them to grant you an interview - HE MATCHED HIS SKILLS TO THE EMPLOYER’S NEEDS!
In my book, I will give YOU the strategies that will set you apart from all the other candidates and get your application to the top of the ‘call for interview' pile!

Even if you have an impressive CV, if you send it out with a soulless cover letter, then you may still not get an interview.
“Why isn’t my CV enough by
itself?” I hear you cry. Well, sometimes the CV just doesn’t truly “connect” with the employer’s requirements.
A CV can sometimes take the form of a long list, comprising the answers to “What? Where? When?” But it doesn't necessarily address the question “How?” and “Who benefited?”
You simply MUST be prepared to make the connection between your skills and abilities and describe how they are going to help the employer achieve their stated objectives.
Here’s the main problem. Your cover letter will only merit 30 seconds worth of scanning on the recruiter’s part. Can your cover letter pass the 30-second test?
Will it say enough about you and what you can bring to the new job? Will the employer get enthused about you as a candidate? Or will it send them to sleep?
If you were stood in front of the employer RIGHT NOW and he or she gave you 30 seconds to ‘sell’ yourself, could you do it? It’s OK. Not many people would be able to respond appropriately when put on the spot in that way. Instead, why not let your cover letter do the talking for you. After all, that is what a GOOD cover letter is designed to do!
I am not going to labour this point any longer. By now, I’m sure you’ve got the message. But in case you missed it the first time, let’s briefly re-cap:
1. The bottom line is that a “Dynamite” cover letter can explain things that your CV can’t.
2. It can showcase your writing and communication skills.
3. It can provide an insight into your personality and what makes you special.
4. It can provide a unique “call to action” for the employer, by creating the desire to want to meet you IN PERSON.
5. A “Dynamite” cover letter can LAND YOU AN INTERVIEW!!
In the final analysis, that is the cover letter’s sole purpose: to provide a link between your CV and your suitability for the job on offer, resulting in AN INVITATION TO INTERVIEW!
This edition includes 35 "interview-winning" letter templates that will show you how to create your own “Dynamite” cover letter for almost any position. They are all real-life examples taken from a cross-section of my coaching clients and every one of them landed
an interview on the strength of their cover letter.
With less than 10% of CVs’ making it through the initial screening process, a “Dynamite” cover letter will give you an edge on your competitors and actually increase your chances of being invited to interview.
This simple step-by-step guide will dramatically increase your success rate in winning interviews for the jobs you really want. Make sure it forms part of your communication ‘tool-box’ when marketing yourself to employers.
